Black History Month 2021
Welcoming County and City staff to our celebration of Black History Month
Greetings! Welcome to our new site for Black History Month programming for 2021. The theme for our events in 2021 is Recognizing The Black Family.
This year's programming highlights the shared history of many Black people in America, the local businesses that support these communities, the intimate conversations Black parents have with their children, and celebrates family traditions. Each week in February, staff are invited to join in on discussions around different topics that relate to African-American families in Saint Paul.
This year's Black History Month Planning Committee is launching a dedicated engagement page for each event every week. Don't miss out! We'll send an email to remind staff to check back each week.
Entrepreneurship Panel Discussion: February 05 @ 12:00 PM
Residents and visitors in Saint Paul are supporting black owned businesses like never before. Staff have an opportunity to hear from local business owners and learn how starting and managing a business has impacted their family and the other way around.

Public schools in the US make sure every student learns the horrific era of enslaved people of African descent in North America. There is so much more to know about African American history. Check out an introduction into the connectedness and the differentiation within the African diaspora.
The Talk: February 19 @ 12:00 PM
“The Talk” refers to conversations that African American families have about law enforcement and how to stay safe in the US. Attend a live discussion with our speakers.

This year's final event will be an interactive discussion around family traditions and food. Join the discussion to for a fun line up, including of several guest speakers and breakout rooms.
We hope the interactive website helps staff immerse themselves in this year's program—even though we can't be together in person. We welcome you to leave any questions or a comments you have about this content by scrolling to the bottom of any event's webpage and clicking in the group chats. Thanks for your participation and we look forward to learning together!
