Be a tester, make a difference
Successful city services rely on resident engagement and community-focused design. As the City of Saint Paul finds new ways to meet people where they are, we must ensure everyone joins in collaborative innovation. This civic engagement program invites residents, business owners and others who visit City of Saint Paul to provide feedback to improve the design of digital services and products.

Community-focused design combines user experience research, community engagement, and design skills development to add perspective for technology solutions. Testers have already provided input on the City of Saint Paul's public website.

Tester opportunities follow a set of principles to ensure consent, privacy and trust are centered at all times.

Our Values and Commitments

  • "If it doesn't work for you, it doesn't work." This founding mantra of the Civic User Testing Group guides our vision for user testing as necessary for a Saint Paul that works for all.
  • Respect for testers and their time. We are dedicated to compensating testers for their time whenever possible. We also commit to incorporating user feedback after its been received.
  • Data privacy and only collecting data that is needed. Identity information about our testers is never public or shared along with data insights. Informed consent is required for all research studies.
  • Recruitment is representative of the community served. We strive to hear from and elevate voices from underrepresented individuals and underserved groups.
  • Designs should be welcoming and accessible. We include perspectives from people with disabilities and English language learners. We also work with community members who have technology barriers such as limited digital literacy or internet connectivity.

Your Feedback is Valuable
We have several active studies in progress with more studies beginning each month. We need testers like you to help us design technology tools and resources. Our values and commitments strive to include people who have historically been underrepresented in processes that inform city design and technology projects. We encourage you to sign up if you identify as any of the following:

  • New to Saint Paul
  • Senior citizen
  • Neurodivergent or having a disability
  • BIPOC
  • LGBTQIA+
  • English language learner
  • Business or rental property owner
